College is established since 1989 by the Higher Education Department of M.P. Government vide order No. 2278/143/ek-f’k-/38-2/89 Bhopal Dated 12.07.1989. Initially its name was Government College Basna but from 2003 the college is renamed as Late Shri Jaidev Satpathi Government College, Basna vide order No. F 73/155/m f’k/2002 Raipur Dated 15.01.2003 of Higher Education Department of Chhattisgarh Government.
There is a vibrant academic atmosphere in the college and throughout the year various extra-curricular activities like NSS, Red-Cross, Sports and Cultural activities take place.
